Sam Lo Ricco

Description

Sam is Chartered Tax Adviser, Chartered Accountant and is Admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW. He has over 30 years tax specialist experience in Australia and internationally.   

Sam is currently a Partner with Nuwaru, a boutique tax firm based in Australia.  He has worked both in professional services firms and in the private sector.   He spent 15 years at one of the ”Big Four” global accounting practices, including 4 years working in several Asia Pacific offices and was the global Head of Tax for 10 years at what was at the time the largest listed industrial company in New Zealand.

Sam’s clients benefit from his extensive Australian and international tax experience and his ability to formulate and execute strategies to manage risk and improve shareholder returns. By combining his technical and analytical skills with excellent commercial judgement Sam successfully executes complex, cross border initiatives. 

His broader experience in legal, finance and treasury from his time in the private sector, enables Sam to operate cross functionally on projects, bringing together individual functional specialists (or filling a gap himself) to ensure that each understand and support each other in delivering the broader outcome. 

Sam’s practice focuses on the following areas:

  • corporate and international income tax, including the Australian tax implications of mergers and acquisitions, consolidation, group restructuring (solvent and insolvent), investment into and out of Australia, and the application of Australia’s tax treaty network;
  • managing taxation audits, negotiations and disputes with the ATO in relation to income tax and related matters; and 
  • taxation issues affecting individuals including the taxation of offshore assets and structures, issues and disputes concerning tax residency and advising on asset protection.
